Since moving into our own Rescue Centre in 2019 Bristol DAWG has gone from strength to strength. The last two years have been challenging to say the least, but we have some amazing supporters and we have been extremely fortunate.
We always want to be in a position to help as many rescue dogs as this is the main aim of the charity. We have therefore decided to appeal for a small amount of foster homes to enable us to help even more dogs.
If you feel you could be part of “Team DAWG” and foster please continue reading.
Any foster home would be checked (unless you are already known to us) and assessed as if a permanent home. Please read our Adoption Procedure.
We are ideally looking for people with sighthound experience, although not essential if you have owned a dog before. We are hoping that perhaps some of the people who have adopted in the past may be able to offer foster with their existing dog – subject to dogs meeting and getting along.
All food and veterinary treatment would be provided whilst any dog is with you, but you would need to have reliable transport, as, if needed, we would be asking for you to take any dog needing veterinary treatment to either Animal Health Centre, Gloucester Road, Bristol or Green Pastures in Weston-Super-Mare. Food would also need to be picked up from either Bradley Stoke or the Rescue Centre in Biddisham.
One very important thing to point out is we have no idea how long any foster would be with you, it could be two weeks, two months or longer, so anyone considering foster must really understand the commitment.
We would match any dog to a foster home depending on circumstances, this would be in line with our re-homing policies. We are looking for fosters in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and as far down the M5 as Bridgwater – sadly we cannot consider any areas further away.
Bristol DAWG would always be at the end of a phone for help, guidance and support from one of the trustees.
If you would like an initial chat about fostering please give Gerry a call on 0117 9695332 or 07795 194223 (between the hours of 8am – 6pm only please).
